OACA is proud to offer its Committee of Adjustment Training Video Series, designed to help newly appointed Committee members develop a strong understanding of Ontario's land use planning framework and the Committee of Adjustment process.
Whether you are a Secretary-Treasurer coordinating municipal training or a new Committee member looking to build your knowledge, this six-part online series provides practical, accessible training that can be completed at your own pace and used to supplement municipal orientation programs.
The Committee Member Video Training Series is currently being refreshed to reflect recent legislative changes and enhanced with updated visuals and content. Stay tuned for the launch of the updated series.

Flexible Online Learning
Registration is available year-round, with no fixed intake dates.
Following registration, participants receive access to all six training videos for a period of four weeks. As access is time-limited, participants are encouraged to begin their training soon after receiving their registration confirmation. Cost:
Municipal Rate - $310.00
Recommended for municipalities that wish to provide training to members of their Committee of Adjustment. Access is per municipality and may be used for municipal group training sessions or made available to individual Committee members for self-directed learning. Where multiple municipalities wish to participate jointly, each municipality must purchase its own access to the video series.
Individual Rate - $67.00
Intended for individuals who do not have access to municipal group training. Access is for a single user and may not be shared, reproduced, or distributed without the prior written consent of OACA.

Volume 1: A Planning Overview
Gain an introduction to Ontario's planning framework and the legislative context that shapes land use planning decisions. This module provides essential background information for Committee members.
Volume 2: Consents
Learn about the consent process in Ontario, including key legislative requirements, application considerations, and the factors that support informed decision-making.
Volume 3: Minor Variances, Permissions & Other Powers
Explore the legislative framework and decision-making criteria under Section 45 of the Planning Act, including minor variances, permissions relating to legal non-conforming uses, and Zoning By-law interpretations.
Volume 4: The Site Visit
Understand the purpose of a site visit and learn what Committee members should observe and consider when reviewing consent and minor variance applications.
Volume 5: Meeting Protocol
Review the legislative requirements, procedures, and best practices that support fair, effective, and efficient Committee of Adjustment meetings.
Volume 6: Conflict of Interest
Develop a practical understanding of conflict of interest legislation in Ontario and learn how to identify and appropriately manage potential conflicts while carrying out Committee responsibilities.
