A UNIQUE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR MUNICIPALITY

OACA is pleased to introduce a training initiative which will provide practical, personal assistance to every person, department or agency involved directly or indirectly with minor variance and/or consent applications.

After discussions with Committee of Adjustment and Land Division Committee Members from many municipalities all over Ontario, OACA learned that most were appointed with minimal instruction regarding what is required to perform the task.  In some municipalities the members of Council act as the Committee of Adjustment, and often even they have not been provided with the knowledge to perform committee duties at a high level of competency.  Training for Committee administrative staff has also been sadly lacking in many instances.

OACA recognized this need and has responded with three excellent educational training sessions to aid committees and their staff in establishing best practice habits.  We also highly recommend including staff from other municipal departments and commenting agencies who make recommendations to committees.  These contributors will benefit from a better understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the consent and minor variance processes.

The training sessions will be conducted by a qualified professional who will come to your municipality.  We suggest that the meeting room be arranged to encourage interactive discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.  Seating delegates around a large table is ideal.

ADDITIONAL HELP IS AVAILABLE!

Each year OACA hosts a one day seminar and a four day conference with a heavy emphasis on education.  The goal is to keep our members abreast of changing legislation and to promote consistent practices throughout Ontario.   For additional information regarding OACA Membership, please contact Linda Gavey, OACA Secretary Treasurer, at lgavey@haldimandcounty.on.ca
